Volunteering

Volunteers are a huge part of Fast Friends! Because of you we are able to put on events and keep the Adoption Center running smoothly. Most importantly, the work you do with the greyhounds is a critical step in helping them transition from track life to a forever home.

Volunteers are welcomed every day 11am—3pm to help walk the greyhounds, wash dishes, garden, and more. Please call first so we can be ready for you.

What do Fast FRiends volunteers do?

Walking — Each of our more than forty greyhounds goes for at least three walks each day, and we're always happy to have help!

Socializing — Spending one-on-one time with individual greyhounds helps them become accustomed to meeting new people so they will be more confident and outgoing when potential adopters come to visit.

Chores — We are tremendously grateful for the volunteers who clean dog dishes, weed the gardens, wash the lobby windows (always lots of dog nose prints!), and help with a variety of other indoor and outdoor chores.

Events — If you want to have a great time while making a huge difference for the greyhounds, sign up to help at one of our annual events or summer yard sales!

Who can volunteer?

Fast Friends welcomes volunteers from across ages and ability levels. No previous experience with dogs is required!

The minimum age for volunteering is 14. If under 16, you must be accompanied by an adult. To work directly with the greyhounds, you must be 18 or 16 and accompanied by an adult.

We do NOT currently have a program for court-ordered community service.

How do I become a volunteer?

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to read the descriptions of the volunteer positions available.

If the volunteer activities being offered are of interest to you, fill out an application online or print an application and bring it with you to orientation. Orientations are held monthly here at Fast Friends. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates and call to reserve your seat.

Once you complete orientation, you can begin volunteering!

What happens when I'm ready to come in to volunteer?

Fast Friends is open for volunteers from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm daily, except on major holidays. Call ahead so we can be ready for you.

When you arrive, sign the Volunteer Log and check in with the front desk to get started.
