Foster
FOSTER a Dog and help them grow
Each and every dog that comes to Fast Friends receives the very best care, like we would give to our own dogs. They have soft beds, healthy food, daily walks, enrichment activities, and one-on-one time with the staff. Dogs are given individualized plans to help them learn the skills they need to succeed in a home, like walking nicely on a leash and not guarding food.
But even with all this care, some dogs just don’t thrive in a kennel environment, either because of their personalities or medical needs. These are the dogs we place with foster families, where they will have a quieter, calmer environment in which to gain confidence, rest and recover, and adjust to a home environment, ultimately enhancing their chance to be adopted.
All dogs that we place into foster care are approved by our supervising veterinarian and go into their foster homes with a certificate of good health.
What they need
We are looking for patient foster parents with calm, low-key homes to help our dogs experience the love of a home and get ready for their own forever home. Many of our dogs would do well with another dog in the home, but it isn’t necessary. A fenced-in yard is also not required. Most of all, these dogs need love and patience.
Fast Friends stays actively involved with all our fosters, working with them to help each dog progress and ultimately be adopted. We ask that all fosters be within a one-hour radius of Fast Friends to facilitate follow-up visits and adoption appointments.
Medication and veterinary treatments are paid for by Fast Friends.
Interested in becoming a foster
Being a foster family isn't for everyone. You will sacrifice a piece of your heart each time one of your foster dogs goes to their forever home, but the gift is in the goodbye. Fostering is a lesson in unselfish love.
If you are interested in finding out more about being a foster, please fill out a foster application. A staff member will contact you to discuss and see which dog might be a good fit. If you have specific questions, please email adoptions@helpinggreyhounds.org.
