Tia's Forever Home |
 |
Tia joined the Doster family, 2 adults and one greyhound, in late September. Since then she has been a delightful addition to our household and keeps us laughing with her antics. She loves her big sister Edie, and they have a great time playing with their toys, chasing each other around the backyard and going for their daily walks. Although there are plenty of soft places around the house for sleeping, Tia particularly enjoys Edie’s boney rear end. As you probably know greyhounds are addictive. You can’t have just one, and once you start adopting them you can’t stop!

Once upon a time there was a dog named Luther. |
 |
Dear Friend,
Once upon a time there was a dog named Luther. Luther was one of more than 100 greyhounds rescued by Fast Friends when the Hinsdale Greyhound Race track closed. For over two years,Sharron and the wonderful staff and volunteers at Fast Friends cared for Luther. He watched as many of his former track mates were adopted to loving homes. For some reason, Luther was passed over time and again. Luther was becoming more anxious--would he ever be adopted?
In late September, our family had to put down our wonderful 12 year old greyhound, Chuckie. I thought I wouldn't get another dog. After all, a dog is a lot of work. The winter was coming, and it's hard to take the dog out when it's cold and snowy. If we want to go away, we have to think about the dog. I went over to Fast Friends to donate all Chuckie's things. I saw some of the beautiful greyhounds needing homes. A few days later, I went back and Sharron brought Luther out to meet me. His black brindle coat shone in the light. His ears were perked up and he was very curious. He was happy to go out for a walk. I was smitten.
A few days later, I brought Luther home. He spent the afternoon sniffing all around the house. By the end of the first week, he was learning the routines of our house. The sound of the garage door, means someone's coming home. The big doggy beds scattered around the house are far more comfortable than a crate. Stuffed toys are fun to toss and chew. A tennis ball is fun to chase. Long walks mean great smells, meeting lots of friendly people and other dogs. Rubs and pats come all the time. Treats come in all sizes and flavors. Luther is now living a simple, doggy life. His anxiety has melted away. In return, the hole in our hearts and home has been filled.

Say Cheese Troy |
|
Dear Michelle, Enclosed is a picture of Troy who has been interrupted from playing with his favorite toy to pose for the camera.
Troy is a perfect companion, he loves to go on long walks, amuse me with his backyard antics, receive loving hugs from my grandchildren, play with my niece's two dogs when they come over for play-dates, and sleep on his bed with comforter next to the wood stove. He leans into me like a shy child when he meets someone new, but is quick to warm up to dog lovers. He is quiet but alert. He loves to throw his toys up into the air and then run to catch them before they fall. He is VERY GOOD AT THIS. I adore him and cannot imagine my home without him. We send our best to Fast Friends for helping us to find each other.
Thank you,
Joan Feierabend

"Queen Tess" |
 |
Hi Fast Friends,
As expected, Tess is doing wonderfully! Each day she is becoming more and more a part of the family. Oddly, she isn't shy - as you will see from these pictures. We wonder if we should start calling her "Queen Tess" and fan her with palm fronds!

"Precious Oliver" |
 |
Dear Fast Friends,
Just an update on our precious Oliver. Hard to believe it's been six months since we adopted him. We just love him and he does so well with all our other greyz. He just loves his stuffies" and even falls asleep with them in his mouth. The highlight of his day is when we go outside and play ball. This picture is Ollie waiting patiently for the first throw. We are so thankful for Oliver for the joy he brings to our life each day.
Sincerely,
Ken & Sally Ward

" Google, Hunter and Addison - Three for Me is Just Right! " |
 |
Google came home first in February 2010, then came Hunter in June and finally Addison this February, 2011. They have such different personalities and get along very well with each other. Google is the character of the lot with his goofy antics and silly expressions. Hunter has such a powerful look when his ears stand straight up but he's really a gently soul and his personality is still emerging eventhough he's been with us almost a year now. Addison, is a spunky little girl that really gets the boys going. The boys have become more playful and outgoing since she's moved in. She doesn't take any nonsense from them either. She puts them in their place and they seem to respect her for it. All three have brought something special to my home and my heart and if I had a bigger home, I'd bring home 3 more!
